It's great to see the DC area's tech companies working to fuel the community. Case in point: I noticed that you've added a sidebar on your blog to bring attention to other DC area startups - great idea. I think we'll do the same on our CollectiveX blog. I did make the 1st one and had a great time. Had a blast at Social Dev Camp last weekend. I agree that we do have a burgeoning DC/VA (even Baltimore) tech community. I think that it will be important for local companies to try to find ways of working together to try to increase the success and visibility of all area companies. One of the most interesting new ventures I learned of was mapufacture.com, created by Andrew Turner. BTW, I really like Loladex; I use it; and I encourage my friends in Facebook to use it, too.
